Volcanic Ash Cloud Update - 24th May 2011

We have been advised that many flights to and from Scotland have been cancelled on Tuesday 24 May as volcanic ash from Iceland heads towards the UK.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines after several airlines announced they are cancelling flights.

  • British Airways says as a precaution it will not operate any flights between London and Scotland on Tuesday May 24 that arrive in Scotland before 2pm or depart from Scotland before 2pm.
  • KLM has cancelled flights to and from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle on Tuesday morning 24 May.
  • Loganair is cancelling most of its flights on Tuesday 24 May from 0600 to 1300. The airline flies to Scottish and English airports.
  • Eastern Airways is not operating flights to and from Scotland and some flights to Norway.
  • EasyJet has cancelled flights to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen.
  • Flybe has cancelled flights to and from Aberdeen and Inverness
  • Ryanair is not operating flights to and from Glasgow Prestwick, Edinburgh or Aberdeen until at least 1300 on Tuesday 24 May.
  • BMI has cancelled flights to and from Scotland.

Iceland airspace remains open on Tuesday 24 May but may be affected again later in the day. Iceland's Keflavik airport was closed on Monday 23 May after the Grimsvötn volcano in south east Iceland began erupting on Saturday 21 May.
