Trenitalia

Trenitalia is the main train operator within Italy and is owned by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group.

Trenitalia offers rail transport around Italy including service in Sicily and Sardinia and also ferries from mainland Italy to the two islands. It also connects Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.

The company operates the ETR 500 high speed train and is a partner in the Cisalpino Italy-Germany-Switzerland route.

They also operate the High Speed services known as 'Frecciarossa' , 'Frecciargento' and 'Frecciabianca', running regularly between the major cities with Roma Termini acting as the hub of the operation.

There are also regular Intercity trains which operate between both the smaller and the larger cities.

Also included within the operation are night trains which operate between Rome and Milan (via Florence), between Milan and Naples or Venice and a service further south into Sicily.
